HMI Chicago: High Holidays 101

When are the High Holidays this year? What’s with the huts? The apples? That loud horn?! Do I really have to fast? Why am I tossing bread to ducks....or was it goats? Do I have to find a synagogue?! What's the best brisket recipe?

If you’ve ever asked these questions, HMI and Rav Sarah have you covered!

Join us for a fun, low-pressure session to learn about the Jewish High Holidays: Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year), Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), Sukkot (the fall harvest festival), and Simchat Torah (when we finish and restart reading the Torah).

We’ll explore the meaning behind these holidays, ways you can celebrate, whether in community, at home, or in a synagogue, and help connect you to options that work for you. You'll have plenty of time to ask your questions and get them answered.

Plus, you’ll hear from HMI alumni about what makes these holidays meaningful for them and how they celebrate with their HMI community.
